Walking into the lobby of the Washington Square Hotel is like time travelling to the left bank of 1930s Paris. Just off the corner of Manhattan’s other park and in the middle of Greenwich Village, this place oozes an intimate, low-key charm. The rooms are a bit on the small side, and make sure you get one that overlooks the park, but its location more than makes up for it. It's a buzzy and young feeling neighbourhood in the heart of Greenwich Village and NYU, with plenty of great restaurants and bars on the doorstep. Staff are very friendly, especially the doorman who is a fund of knowledge and keen to share his amusing anecdotes! Whilst it might not be frequented by the star guests that it boasted in the '60s and '70s (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones et al) it is an atmospheric choice in a fantastic location.
