Abergavenny, the area’s best-known market town, is a foodie favourite. Stay nearby or visit for the day to marvel at the markets (held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) and to savour delectable dishes in the town’s laid-back pubs and restaurants. Time your trip for the annual autumn food festival for the ultimate experience! Abergavenny also boasts the excellent Abergavenny Museum, in a Norman hilltop castle — well worth visiting, along with the museums at Chepstow and Monmouth. There are a plethora of historic buildings and ruins to see across the region, too. Admire Shire Hall in Monmouth, amble around the Iron Age forts near Crickhowell and Caerleon, or delve into the life of Henry VII at Raglan Castle.
