About Escalante

Escalante, a small desert town in southern Utah, charms visitors with red rock vistas, star-filled skies, and direct access to the breathtaking Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument. Stay close to Main Street if you’re after budget-friendly inns and family-run lodges, or choose a chic desert cabin on the outskirts for privacy and stunning views. Couples often opt for boutique stays with rustic style, while families appreciate roomy, laid-back hotels.

Southern Utah is full of adventure, from the rugged four-wheel-drive trails of historic Hole-in-the-Rock Road to the winding slot canyons of Spooky Gulch and the strange formations of Devil’s Rock Garden. The Escalante Petrified Forest is a must-see, and nearby Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks add even more dramatic landscapes to explore. Whether you’re into hiking, climbing, biking, or horseback riding, the region has no shortage of ways to get outside, with Wide Hollow Reservoir offering a chance to cool off with canoeing, boating, or fishing. Beyond the outdoor thrills, Escalante invites you to connect with its rich Native American history, discover ancient artifacts, and soak in the magic of its sandstone cliffs and forests. After a day packed with exploration, it’s easy to unwind with friends or family at one of the welcoming places to stay in town—making the area as relaxing as it is unforgettable.
