Conservatorium Hotel

At first glance, the Conservatorium (similar in style to St Pancras) doesn't fit as a hotelguru hotel, massive and seemingly corporate, but it definitely works. Originally built as a bank and then taken over as the university music school, it has been transformed by Italian architect and interior designer Piero Lissoni into an icon of style and hip. The service is smiley and immaculate, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well equipped, amazingly comfortable beds with top quality linen, bathrooms with rainfall showers, fluffy towels and Occitane accessories. So often big hotels can seem so impersonal, but not the Conservatorium, there is a buzz and not just from the hotel guests but from the locals too, who drop by for a cup of coffee or Sunday lunch. To cap it all, it’s 2 mins to the Van Gogh and 3 mins to the Rijksmuseum.
