Hotel review

Design has not lost touch with common sense here. It is comfortable, it works and it’s welcoming. Location (next to the Grand) is central to its appeal, but the Lydmar has successfully pulled in a fashionable clientele and that makes the public rooms lively. Ladies lunch at the Lydmar. The bedrooms have period features (plasterwork etc.) but modern furniture - not too modern - brings it into the 21st. century and eclectic junk shop investments (a child’s trike, old cameras, books in interesting bindings, etc.) soften the cutting edge.
