About Parga

Northwestern Greece remains a lesser-explored and vastly underrated holiday destination. Perched on the shores of the Ionian Sea, the pretty red-roofed town of Parga is a wonderful choice for a foray into this part of Greece with family and friends. A growing selection of accommodation options invites guests to unwind in style. Our Gurus’ pick of the best places to stay in Parga are also appealingly affordable, reflecting the laid-back feel of the region.

Amble along narrow alleyways lined with shops, homes, bars and bustling tavernas, picking a perch for some people watching in the heat of the day. Most little lanes lead up to the town’s fortified castle, which dates back to the 14th Century and promises spectacular views. Keen heritage aficionados can also venture west to the nearby Ali Pasha Castle, from which attempts were made to destroy Parga Castle with cannons. The walk through olive groves and orchards is very special.

Beachgoers can kick back on the sands of centrally located Kironeri beach, or the more tranquil Valtos and Lichnos beaches. All are within walking distances, although boats also ferry sun-seekers along the coast during the summer months. Sail along the coast, or take the whole family zip-lining and rafting on the scenic Acheron River. For cooler climes if you’re eager to hike and cycle in the broader Epirus region, visit in the spring or autumn, when the best places to stay in Parga will also be quieter.
