If you are looking for an ideal ski holiday hotel the Piz Buin has it all without being over the top - just super comfy, warm, well located, friendly, contemporary with a touch of traditional Swiss chalet charm - in fact a quietly confident alpine hideaway that knows exactly what it is. Located in the centre of Klosters, everything is within easy walking distance, lifts, ski shops, restaurants and the train station. Rooms are generously sized and reassuringly comfortable, many with balconies framing mountain views that do most of the talking. Décor leans towards warm woods, crisp linens and subtle alpine references rather than full-blown rustic cliché. Also on offer are studios and one and two bedroom apartments with generous sitting rooms and kitchenettes.

Downstairs, the spa is a genuine draw: sleek, calm and well thought-out, indoor pool, relax area, numerous saunas and steam rooms with invigorating showers, tropical rainforest etc to make the skin tingle - après-ski almost feels virtuous. Breakfast is extensive and provides plenty of hearty sustenance for a day on the mountains, summer or winter. The restaurant is popular but there are also plenty of choices outside the hotel.

This is not a showy hotel, nor does it try to be. Instead, it’s for friends, families, singles who value comfort, location and understated quality over flash. A solid, well-judged Klosters classic.
