“The legendary Wynegg, owned by the Guler family since 1887 is under new ownership. Ruth Guler finally handed the reins over to three local young men. The fondue Chinoise is still as good, and the bar and restaurants are packed. Rooms are comforatable and traditional. Great value and great fun!”

Hotel Review

Die hard Wynegg enthusiasts have held their breath as the Wynegg comes under new stewardship. Three enthusiastic and dedicated local young men have taken on the much-revered Ruth Gulers mantel. The Wynegg has long been a haunt of the old school British skier and a favourite après ski venue for the Marden’s Club since the 1920s. Many a night have skiers clogged up the restaurant après ski in snowy boots straight off the mountain. It is now under the care of Cedric Muller, Christian “Hitsch” Florin, and their childhood friend Andri Fasser (Andri trained at the Hotel Vereina in Klosters and Restaurant Seven in Ascona with renowned chef Ivo Adam). Andri, the driving force behind the venture, had long harboured an ambition to run his own hotel and restaurant. Ruth made his dream possible. The three work harmoniously together with Hitsch’s fiancé Sabrina working on reception, with their dog Jane curled up on a sofa or hoovering up crumbs from breakfast. The hotel has been given a gentle makeover. Loyal guests will be relieved that the upstairs stübli with the panelled ceiling, painted by Ruth’s father in 1887, remains unchanged. Rooms are simple but comfortable all with ensuite bathrooms. Rooms at the back are quieter; ten and eleven are favourites under the sloping eaves, and one suite sleeps four with a sofa and TV. Andri produces excellent food from the kitchen for two restaurants both offering fondues, raclette and a la carte menu with regional specialities. There’s a jovial atmosphere, and a colourful mix of locals prop up the bar. Darts and scrabble with Mick Jagger (not in person) blaring in the background. Ruth would be proud of the boys.
