About Saundersfoot

A picturesque, remote seaside resort in Wales, Saundersfoot sits around the bay from its attractive but more traditional neighbour, Tenby. Nestling along a wide and long stretch of sandy beach, centred around a lovely harbour lined with postcard-perfect painted houses, it makes for a fantastic romantic getaway, traditional British seaside holiday or writer's retreat. Surrounded by stunning natural scenery, with rolling hills brimming with wildlife, and islands inhabited by seals, seabirds and monks, there are some fantastic walks to be enjoyed in the nearby area - particularly along the coastal paths.  The best places to stay in Saundersfoot are perfect for relaxation and intimacy - ideal for a quiet seaside break on the beautiful Welsh coast.

What not to miss

  • Stroll the Pembrokeshire Coast path, to Tenby or further. There are plenty of other scenic walking trails around Saundersfoot too.
  • Take a boat trip across to Caldey Island to meet the grey seals, seabirds and the local order of monks...
  • Explore the medieval centre of Tenby, which has the full compliment of cobbled streets, shops, galleries and boutiques, cafes, pubs and ice cream parlours, all constrained by the town’s Norman walls.
  • Sunbathe on the beach (weather permitting!) and enjoy a range of watersports on offer - from banana-boating to ringoing!
  • Make time to visit St Mary’s Church in Tenby, this gracefully arched building was built in the 13th century and has some wonderful carved decorations, and a slightly frightening tomb topped with a cadaver.

A quintessentially British seaside escape, complete with bewitching natural scenery, wildlife and historic heritage, Saundersfoot is well-placed for exploring Pembrokeshire. Find out more by browsing our list of the best places to stay in Saundersfoot.

Travel Information

  • Pembrokeshire doesn’t have a big airport, it has a small one, Haverfordwest, which has very limited connections. So, if you’re flying you’re better off coming in to Cardiff Airport. Pembrokeshire doesn’t even have a motorway, and is served in a rather limited capacity by rail, with lines running to Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Fishguard. Tenby is connected by local rail to Swansea, Cardiff and Pembroke Dock, and in the summer months there are a few services from London, Paddington. You might consider arriving by ferry to, into Fishguard or Pembroke.
  • If you want to rent a car, which we'd advise if you want to explore the area further, check out our partners Rentalcars.
  • Most visitors come to Pembrokeshire for the summer, with temperatures in July and August hitting 19 or 20°C on average. Perfect for a seaside holiday!
