With an interior designed by acclaimed Belgian architect Charles Kaisin, this elegant boutique hotel fuses traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary elements. Take the Pixel Room where 23,000 pieces of different coloured silk are patched together to produce a padded mural of the Jemaa el Fnaa. In the library, where guests can dine, there are over a thousand books, with edges folded to spell out lines from Baudelaire’s poem L’invitation au voyage. Full of surprises, rooms are startlingly voluminous with plenty of chairs, sofas, wardrobe space and alcoves for desks or cushioned seating and curtain drapes to divide areas for privacy. Fire places help make bedrooms cosy in the evenings. Bathrooms have generous marble tubs or showers, double sinks and separate loos. Guests can have breakfast and dinner on the roof terrace which comes alive at night. The hanging woven pendant lights over the Bidaya bar create an atmospheric feel while dining in sight of the twinkling lights of Marrakech. The food is either traditional tagine or international and served by delightful staff.
