Hotel Review

Close to what is, arguably, Northumberland’s prettiest beach, Beadnell Bay, this is a surprisingly stylish dog- and family-friendly boutique hotel. Surprising, because the exterior – a rather bland and stout grey-washed Georgian building – belies snazzy interiors where a keen designer eye has been at work. Expect parquet floors and denim-blue panelling, a collection of Bakelite telephones at reception, and a bar-bistro with mustard-yellow stools and a dazzling collection of copper kitchen utensils on the walls.

Bedrooms mix elegant headboards and smart armchairs with bold feature wallpapers and brass Anglepoise lamps together with nods to the seaside location – perhaps a telescope, framed beachcomber finds or a shell-patterned wallpaper. A little disappointingly, not many of the bedrooms have sea-views, but all have high-quality bathrooms.

Beadnell Towers

After a salt-whipped romp along the Northumberland Coast, this cosy boutique hotel in Beadnell certainly warms the cockles. Rooms have a country manor-meets-Liberty London vibe while the dog-friendly restaurant is more trendy fisherman chic, serving local ales, spirits and some seriously fresh seafood.
