Hotel Review

Arriving at Cabo Serai is an experience in itself. Set away from the road and up a meandering hill (accessible only by foot or golf cart), guests are welcomed with a fresh coconut before being whisked to their beautifully secluded room.

A collection of just seven luxury tents and cottages, Cabo Serai is a place to come and truly unwind. Spacious cottages are made from pine wood, wrapped with an enormous verandah complete with day beds and a desk. Local artwork adorns the walls, large rain showers have an outdoor feel, and the spectacular sea views can be enjoyed from the comfort of your bed. Everything has been thought of here, the bath-products are all made locally from coconuts and, as this is an eco-conscious stay, there's no packaging - each product is made into a bar. Teas are loose-leaf and sourced in India and the coffee comes from Tamil Nadu.

The alfresco restaurant is an equally delightful experience. A fixed menu mixes local Goan dishes with excellent Western offerings. It's not flashy, it's just good food. There's also a particularly memorable cocktail menu. Breakfasts have the feel of a trendy health cafe with chia seed water, fresh juices and eggs to order.

Despite the few rooms, the property is large and taking a stroll through the jungle spotting some of the 80 species of birds is a real must. That is, of course, once you've managed to peel yourself off your day bed! To top this property off, the beach (which is about a 10 minute stroll or accessible by cart) is mostly unknown and feels entirely private. A Goan experience like no other.
