“An exceptionally elegant C17th mansion in the Moqf district with six opulent rooms (4 spacious suites and 2 apartments), a rooftop terrace with pool, salons and old school professional service. Italian-owned, it has the feel of a grand private residence. For couples and groups.”

Hotel review

The most unusual detail about this hotel is the entranceway accessed through a studded black cedar door leading to stairs that descend to the below ground-level interior. This makes for an intriguing way in. Four substantial houses are co-joined to create a grand, labyrinthine interior on multi-levels with plenty of cosy nooks and salons to hang out in.

Smiling staff are on hand to help with luggage and show guests to rooms which are reached via separate ascending black and white checkered corridors and steps in different wings of the residence. Spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows, suites (each named after a designated colour) offer all the cocooning comfort and luxury of a heavenly boutique retreat. Hand-painted ceilings, carved antique furnishings, chaises longues, giant urns and generous bathrooms give a sense of indulgence.

Dinner is served on the roof terrace (or in the privacy of your room):- expertly prepared by in-house cook Maria with love and attention to flavour and presentation. Breakfast is equally delicious with everything, from fresh fruit and yoghurt to pastries and warm breads along with eggs cooked all ways.

Why do people love staying in your hotel?
Guests are drawn to Dar Darma’s timeless beauty — a historic riad that blends original architecture with handcrafted décor. It’s a serene hideaway for those seeking authenticity, quiet elegance, and the soul of old Marrakech.
With only six suites, some guests choose to rent the entire riad, enjoying it exclusively with friends or family to celebrate special occasions in complete privacy.

What is there to do in the area?
Tucked in the heart of the Medina, the riad is moments from the Marrakech Museum, the Photography Museum, and the Ben Youssef Medersa. The nearby souk and emerging design district showcase young artisans reimagining Moroccan tradition with modern flair, while the area also offers luxury spas, charming local restaurants and the newly opened 1112 Marrakech, a refined spot for an authentic tea ritual. The riad is also strategic to visit the surroundings of Marrakech.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
A generous Moroccan breakfast featuring fresh fruit, homemade pancakes and cakes, local honey, olive oil, and jams — all served with aromatic tea or coffee. Savoury international options are available upon request.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
At La Table Dar Darma, guests can enjoy refined Moroccan cuisine for lunch or dinner. However, our Staff gladly shares insider tips — from hidden local eateries to elegant restaurants with live music or a contemporary twist.

Which are your most popular room types, and why?
The Red Suite is a true favourite — 140 sqm of understated grandeur with two bedrooms, intricate plaster arches, painted wooden ceilings, and a fireplace for quiet evenings in.  Its size and layout make it perfect for romantic couples, families or small groups. And guests love the quirky detail of one of its two bathrooms, which is charmingly hidden behind a wardrobe.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?
Our spacious suites comfortably accommodate extra beds. Families appreciate our relaxed atmosphere, children’s cooking classes, and English- or French-speaking babysitters. With the pool and rooftop terrace, there is plenty of space to unwind and enjoy quality time together, making Dar Darma a peaceful yet family-friendly retreat.

What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers?

Dar Darma isn’t just a place to stay — it’s an immersion into Marrakech’s refined soul. Behind its carved doors, beauty, silence, and gentle gestures create an atmosphere where tradition meets timeless comfort. Our long-standing team welcomes guests like family, with the scent of orange blossom, the calm of incense, and a mint tea waiting after the medina’s hum — an experience as warm as it is authentic.
