“A grand former residence of a French colonial governor given a chic makeover inspired by tropical modernism. Light, airy rooms & suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies & big beds topped with dusky pink bedspreads. A foodie favourite, complete with inviting pool and spa.”

Top 10 hotels, hostels and B&Bs near Angkor Wat, C

On the riverside in one of Siem Reap's most distinctive buildings, the FCC or Foreign Correspondents' Club wasn't a hang-out for reporters like its Phnom Penh sister property but was the old French governor's mansion. It still boasts colonial charm, with ceiling fans, shutters and retro sofas; however, the accommodation, in adjoining low-rise buildings, is by contrast sleek and contemporary. Recently refurbished minimalist rooms overlook a garden or the swimming pool.
