“This stunning Belle Époque hotel offers wonderful views of the Swiss Alps. The suave and stylish rooms are thoughtfully furnished, and the best offer balconies overlooking the mountains. With a fantastic restaurant, an indoor pool and a spa it's perfect for a romantic retreat!”

Hotel review

The Schweizerhof, Flims is run by the 4th-generation Schmidt family who have been providing a beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable stay for both travellers and locals alike for more than a century. The Belle Epoque hotel has 48 simple yet stylishly elegant rooms with sweeping views of the Swiss alps. Explore the public spaces of the hotel and you will have a lot of fun - Albert Einstein was a content visitor in the past and there are multiple nods to the Schmidt family’s famous relative who was a popular movie director. The piece de resistance, however, has to be the adjoining wellness centre which locals visit for yoga retreats, pilates classes and sauna sessions to connect with nature. There are many free classes for hotel guests too. The hotel has a simple bar and restaurant with a very friendly team serving nice Swiss specialties.

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Guests love staying at the Schweizerhof Flims because it offers a rare combination of historic charm, heartfelt hospitality, and an inspiring Alpine setting. Our hotel is a lovingly preserved Belle Époque house with soul – full of character and authenticity – yet with all the modern comforts today’s travellers expect.

What sets us apart is our diverse weekly guest activity programme, which invites guests to relax, recharge, and try something new. From Yoga, Qi Gong, and Pilates to guided walks and workshops, the programme is designed to inspire and support wellbeing — physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s completely optional, but many guests find it a real highlight of their stay.

Combined with our peaceful location just steps from the Caumasee, our warm and personal service, and the sense of retreat from the everyday, the Schweizerhof becomes a place guests return to again and again.

What is there to do in the area? Flims is an outdoor paradise in every season. In summer and autumn, the region offers spectacular hiking and nature experiences. You can explore the dramatic Rhine Gorge (also called the “Swiss Grand Canyon”), go white-water rafting, or hike to panoramic viewpoints and crystal-clear lakes like the famous Caumasee and Crestasee.

Don’t miss the Four Lakes Hike, the unique Trutg dil Flem trail with its impressive mountain river bridges, or discovering the UNESCO-listed Tectonic Arena Sardona, where you can see the collision of continents revealed in the rock formations.

In winter, the Flims-Laax-Falera ski area offers over 200 km of slopes, excellent snow conditions, and winter hiking routes — all easily accessible from the hotel.

For those interested in culture or relaxation, there are also local galleries, concerts, and wellness options nearby.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer a generous breakfast buffet focused on fresh, regional, and mostly organic ingredients. Guests can enjoy a selection of artisan breads, local cheeses and meats, homemade jams, fresh fruit, Bircher muesli, eggs cooked to order, and a variety of plant-based options. Whether you're heading into the mountains or enjoying a slow morning, our breakfast is the perfect way to start the day.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Yes, we serve a seasonal evening menu in our elegant dining room, with dishes inspired by local produce and Alpine flavours. The menu changes regularly and always includes vegetarian options.

For guests who’d like to dine out, there are several excellent restaurants nearby that we’re happy to recommend. In Flims, popular choices include Chesa, Capols, Conn (especially for lunch after a walk through the forest or along the Rhine Gorge), and Vivaldi (this is where we send our guests on Sundays as part of our “dine around” experience) for a fine dining atmosphere.

If you're up for a scenic outing, we also highly recommend the Gasthaus zum Brunnen in Valendas, just across the Rhine Gorge — a charming and historic spot known for its regional cuisine and warm atmosphere.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our Bellevue rooms are especially popular thanks to their stunning mountain views. Because the Schweizerhof is situated slightly elevated on a rocky plateau, even rooms on the first floor enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding Alps — a real luxury in the heart of Flims.

Guests also love our Panorama Tower rooms, which offer a unique perspective and a wonderful sense of space, light, and Alpine atmosphere.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?
We warmly welcome families and offer several spacious room types where we can add extra beds or baby cots upon request. Depending on availability, we can also provide children’s beds, sledges, and strollers to make your stay as easy and enjoyable as possible.

As a family-run hotel in its fourth generation, we know from experience what children and parents appreciate during a stay. Our three children are often around the hotel themselves, which brings a warm and natural family spirit to the house.

The surroundings are ideal for children — with forests to explore, lakes to swim in, and easy hiking trails just outside the door. In winter, families love the proximity to ski schools, beginner slopes, and safe snow play areas.

What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers? If you're looking for a place where you can truly unwind — surrounded by nature, inspired by history, and welcomed with genuine warmth — the Schweizerhof Flims is waiting for you.

We are a family-run hotel in the fourth generation, and we believe that real hospitality comes from the heart. Our home is your home — and many guests tell us they feel that from the moment they arrive. Whether you come for the hiking, skiing, swimming, or simply to slow down and reconnect, you'll find space here to feel inspired and well cared for.

We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful and soulful corner of the Swiss Alps.
