“This unique eco-lodge is nestled deep in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Guest cabañas sit on stilts in the tropical vegetation with a traditional thatched roof and glass-free windows boasting uninterrupted views. Sample local cuisine in the restaurant after a morning excursion; a smart escape.”

Hotel review

A stay at Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción feels like being dropped straight into the heart of the rainforest - in the best possible way! The whole place is tucked into a huge stretch of rainforest near Tambopata National Park and right by the Madre de Dios River, so it never really feels like a 'hotel' in the usual sense.

The main house is probably one of the best parts. It’s got high, airy ceilings with palm-thatched roofing and a big open veranda, which is especially nice early in the morning or just before dinner. The whole place has a slightly worn-in, authentic feel and is not overly polished, just comfortable and full of character.

Rooms are simple but have everything that's needed. The mosquito nets are very much a necessity, and having hot water and fans makes a big difference after being out in the humidity all day. The private cabanas are what really stand out - they’re more luxurious, more spacious, and have "open sided" walls using only mosquito net meshing, so you feel fully immersed in the jungle and may even get woken up to the sight (and sound) of howler monkeys!

The staff are a big part of why the stay works so well. Nothing feels forced or overly formal - everyone is friendly, helpful, and genuinely good at what they do. The guides in particular make the activities very interesting without making it feel like information overload.

Food is better than expected for somewhere this remote. It’s not trying to be fancy, but it’s fresh, filling, and there’s enough variety to not get repetitive over a few days. The daily Happy Hour deal is a great way to get chatting to other guests around the small bar, and the banana chip snacks are a must with your maracuyá sour!

The activities are what really make the whole experience so memorable. Jungle walks, canopy bridges, canoe rides - it’s all there, but it never feels rushed or over-scheduled. Easy to stay busy, but also easy to just slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
