“Lovely hotel and restaurant nestled in the beautiful Teign Valley; open log fires and cosy interiors makes this the most welcoming place to come back to after a day exploring Dartmoor. Enjoy delicious afternoon tea and gastronomic delights for dinner in the 2AA rosette restaurant. Dog friendly too.”

Hotel review

This C15th mill was originally used to grind cereal flour until 1922. Today the country house, which still incorporates the wheel with the River Teign running under the kitchens, plays host to 21 rooms - all named after Dartmoor rivers, from Avon to Wolf. Situated at the end of a drive within its own grounds, peace prevails although the soothing sounds of the Teign can be heard from the riverside bedrooms. Immaculately clean and well presented, every comfort has been considered with sofas, desks, welcome biscuits, after dinner truffles and even a dram for those needing a boost! Rooms vary in sizes whether a small double or a mezzanine family suite, some with showers and generous bath tubs. Breakfasts are generous and dinner is excellent - perfect portions, beautifully displayed - served with homemade breads by polite and attentive staff. It’s the perfect spot for walking on Dartmoor or visiting the charming village of Chagford with its independent shops and art gallery.
