Hotel Review

In an ultra-modern skyscraper building, overlooking the city's famous Erasmus Bridge, the hotel has a cool, minimalist style that's fun and daring. Popular riverside bar and terrace, too. Many would argue that the nhow (the 'h' is silent) hotel is Rotterdam's coolest location: on the fast-developing Kop van Zuid peninsula, overlooking the Nieuwe Maas river and the iconic Erasmusbrug (the graceful, asymmetric suspension bridge) and amongst the city's startling new skyscrapers. Indeed, it occupies 17 floors of one of the three towers that make up the striking De Rotterdam building. The style is bold and modern with a sophisticated industrial feel: polished concrete, sweeping glass, exposed girders, with stark colours of black, grey and white, and pops of the hotel's signature red.  Minimalist-style bedrooms are large and light with floor-to-ceiling windows, polished concrete and white walls, and pale-wood floors. Other than a mirror (which includes the TV) there's no decoration. While over half have river views, be aware entry-level rooms can look directly into the office blocks either side with only a sideways view of water. Dinner in the seventh-floor restaurant is an unusual 'flexitarian' menu - vegetarian base; add meat or fish - while breakfasts are huge, with everything from smoothies and eggs-how-you-want to petits fours. The restaurant's views are superb, particularly from the terrace; the perfect spot for cocktails.
