Is it the journey or the destination? When it comes to Niehku Mountain Villa, it’s definitely the destination which then leads into an adventurous journey that will stay with you for life. Located about 200 km from the Arctic Circle, Niehku Mountain Villa was built for adventure. Guests can book a room and go out exploring summits, fjords and thousands of trails surrounding the property or simply leave it to the onsite experts and do it all in a 3-day package. Hiking in the summer and heli-skiing in the winter draw crowds to this relatively remote region of Sweden but the coolness factor of the rustic lodge perhaps gives travellers more reason to return.
There are only 14 rooms, some suites, with comfy Hastens beds, closet space for boots and ski gear, as well as heat-racks for post-adventure comfort. The floors on the lower floor lead out into the wilderness and a few steps away you can cross over into Norway. Public spaces are well-designed with a rustic charm to it – local paintings of nature are hidden in spaces unless you spot them with a keen eye, there is a Swedish sauna with private treatments on demand and also multiple fireplaces for lingering. You may come to Niehku for the wilderness but the hospitality is just as worthy of the pilgrimage. The menu changes to the seasons and everything is made in house with smoked fish, freshly baked bread and cakes all available throughout the day from breakfast to dinner. The wine cellar is a standout with more than 3000 bottles and close to 400 labels which are curated by a top sommelier in the country. The property is available for a full buy-out.
Michelle's top tip: Opt for the Niehku package for the full experience and you will have access to one of the country’s most celebrated mountain guides during your whole stay.

"Our stay at your hotel (for the second time) felt like stepping into a gentle poem
- one written not only by mountains and silence, but by the kindness and care of your remarkable staff.
Every smile, every thoughtful gesture, every quiet act of service carried warmth and sincerity. Your team did more than host us - you made us feel seen, welcomed, and genuinely cared for.
The dinners - unforgettable. Each meal was a celebration of flavor and craftsmanship, served with pride and generosity. The kitchen and dining staff turned every evening into a moment of joy, comfort, and wonder.
We leave with full hearts, grateful not only for a beautiful place, but for the people who give it its soul. Thank you for creating an experience rich in warmth, beauty, and human connection."
