“A modern hotel set in the docklands area alongside the River Lee. Rooms are elegant and comfortable, some with free-standing copper baths. There's a rooftop restaurant with stunning views, plus a chic bar for coffee and cocktails. Add in an indoor pool and sauna, and you have a relaxing city stay. ”

Hotel review

From the moment of entering, there’s an effortlessly cool style throughout The Dean Hotel, from the communal areas to the bedrooms. Wooden rope swings hang by the lifts, neon messages light the reception desk, while rooms are fitted with retro telephones and brightly coloured Smeg minibar fridges. The large beds are extremely comfortable and patterned curtains, leather furnishings and tiled bathrooms add to the bold interiors. What the double rooms may lack in space is made up for in fun, functional designs. Larger family rooms and suites are available too, boasting wonderful views of the city. Interesting artwork hangs on the walls throughout the hotel.

The reception area is spacious with comfy seating, warm lighting and excellent coffees, making it a popular choice for hotel residents and locals alike. This sense of the hotel being open to the community is apparent throughout and creates an especially friendly and buzzing atmosphere at different times of the day. Guests have access to the hotel’s Power Gym with its state-of-the-art equipment, spinning studio and climbing classes. The pool and sauna are ideal for both exercise and relaxation – or both – with a playful swing over the water and hydrotherapy pool.

Head to the top floor for Sophie’s rooftop restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The wooden furnishings and exposed brickwork echo the area’s many warehouses, while tables in booths are reminiscent of a New York diner. Breakfasts are very good and there’s a pizza oven and wide-ranging menu, with an Italian twist. The focal point, other than the extensive city views, is the impressive large circular bar where bartenders concoct interesting cocktails, alongside serving beers and wines. Remain on the ground floor for smaller bites at The Dean Bar.

This large, modern hotel is well placed both for visiting Cork and exploring the wider county with its expansive beaches, wild coastline, castles and pretty villages.
