One of Athens’ most stylish new hotel openings, The Dolli already has all the hallmarks of classic. The word ‘classic’ being the operative word here: set within a striking neoclassical building that was once a grand department store, the hotel has been recently restored to its former glory. A lobby delineates Grecian style at its most sumptuous, featuring polished marble floors, bronze statues, enormous amethyst crystals, lush plants and dumpling-like bouclé armchairs. Glass-protected antiquities sit alongside contemporary lighting and art pieces, creating an aesthetically fascinating dynamic between old and new, minimalism and maximalism. Moving inward into a living room-like café, interiors lean into a playful maximalism, with quirky details such as colourful ceiling mobiles and antique writing desks. The suites are equally impressive: vast, serene spaces dressed in white and natural textures, with more bouclé, marble and floor-to-extraordinarily-high-ceiling windows that open onto atrium terraces overflowing with greenery. The true pièce de résistance, however, is the rooftop pool. A truly luxurious way to escape the Athenian heat while taking in the city’s star attractions, from the Parthenon to the buzzing streets of the Plaka neighbourhood below.
