“A fun, boutique hotel in a quieter corner of Florence, just a stroll from the city’s big sights. Rooms blend Memphis flair with dusky marbles and warm, retro tones. There's a sun-drenched courtyard, coastal Italian dining, and a cosy wine bar. A stylish base with real character”

Hotel review

Another brainchild of the Hoxton hotel brand and a taster of ‘new’ Florence – a former 16th-century palazzo turned into a voguish Florence stay. AIME Studios is responsible for the transformation, and it couldn’t be more tastefully done, the colourway taking inspiration from the tricoloured marbles of the mighty Duomo. This new Hoxton is set in a sleepy residential part of Florence, Piazza della Libertà. It’s only a 15-minute walk to the Renaissance city's heart if you walk via San Gallo, but this boutique beauty feels worlds away from the check-box tourists, and you’ll be all the happier for it. After a long day wandering around Florence retire to this cool and elegant home-from-home. There are 161 rooms over two buildings, all with soothing colour palettes, high-spec furnishings and roomy showers as per the usual Hoxton signature (not forgetting the hallmark Hox Roberts DAB radios) – think terracotta-pink beds and pastel khaki walls with glossy, dark-tiled bathrooms or a pop of prints and nods to the Memphis design movement in the Branzi Building. There’s a restaurant that includes a vast garden terrace, sleek wine bar, and underground event space. Book a beautiful Studio Terrace which sleeps three adults: with a living area, outdoor space (some with outdoor baths) and a big bathroom.

The hotel’s standout is its bright, striped terrace at Alassio, the coastal-inspired restaurant. Surrounded by olive and lemon trees, it’s ideal for aperitivo or dinner — highlights include rosemary seabass and excellent tiramisu, paired with smart wine picks. Otherwise just nearby local favourite Titto’s serves standout cabbage pesto linguine and pancetta meatballs. Breakfast is simple but solid, with fresh juices, avo eggs, bacon sandwiches, and good coffee.
