Hotel Review

Clifden is a charming seaside town on the coast of Galway. With a sprinkling of pubs and restaurants, plus great walking routes along the coast, it makes a picturesque weekend getaway in Connemara. The Quay House, housed in the oldest building in the town and dating back to the 1850s, has had a number of incarnations, first as the Harbour Master's house and later as a Franciscan monastery. The property has been lovingly restored and adorned with an eclectic mix of antiques which reflects the sense of fun of owners Paddy and Julia Foyle. Original open fireplaces in the hotel living room welcome guests in from the windy coast with a warm embrace; this is the perfect place to curl up after a day trip fishing or a long walk. The town centre is just a seven-minute walk away, but the B&B's seafront location gives the sense of a much more secluded setting, perfect for a hideaway holiday. Upstairs, the hotel guestrooms are spread across both sides of the property, meaning a good number offer harbour views. Original period paintings and functioning fireplaces give the sense of stepping back in time, while luxury linens and comfortable pillows guarantee a good night's sleep. There is also an adapted, wheelchair accessible room available on the ground floor. With charming views, cosy interiors and great hosts, this B&B has a winning package which keeps guests coming back.
