“A refined Budapest hotel with nods to the city's 19th-century cosmopolitan charm. Interiors blend historic elegance with contemporary flair - think nostalgic touches like vintage-style phones alongside sleek modern comforts. Flava delivers bold flavours with its Mexican-inspired menu.”

Hotel review

Walkable Budapest rewards a good base, and Verno House delivers. In the beating heart of Pest, this decidedly boutique hotel occupies an historic building, once a gathering point for artists, politicians and intellectuals. That energy is still present in the lobby today: a soaring 15-metre atrium of banana trees, areca palms, sculptural lighting and shelves of books on architecture, travel, design and history.

The 48 rooms range from well-proportioned Deluxe rooms on the upper floors (ours had floor-to-ceiling windows framing Liberty Square) to generous suites with separate living areas and both a deep bath and shower. Staff were fabulous, and breakfast was one of the better hotel spreads we've encountered: eggs made to order and a plentiful fresh buffet. Restaurant Flava, a green urban oasis open to guests, rounds things off. The Treat Bar serves four classic Hungarian sweets three days a week.

Complimentary bikes are available, with the Danube, St. Stephen's Basilica and the stunning Hungarian Parliament a short ride away. After a long day pounding Budapest's pavements, the BOTANIQ Spa beckons: Finnish sauna, steam room, whirlpool bath and massage treatments using MEI, an Italian luxury vegan cosmetic range available exclusively in Hungary. Spas are to Budapest what saunas are to Finland, and Verno House takes that seriously.
