In a city brimming with luxury hotels, Villa Agrippina Gran Melia caters to those who want affordable luxury and space over anything else. Once the holiday home of Emperor Nero’s mother and then a former monastery, the century-old property opened in 2012 as a luxury hotel and stands as one of Rome’s only true urban resorts with more than 9,000 square metres. Service is friendly and comes with a smile, but don’t expect to be remembered by name even if you do stay more than a few days. Most guests are families who love the large public spaces which include a large outdoor pool, well-groomed gardens and the ability to walk to the Vatican in less than 10-minutes by foot. 
 
There are multiple dining options and all of them are great. There is Gala Pool Bar and Restaurant which is perfect for lunch when the sun is out, Amaro Bar for Spanish-inspired dishes and Follie Restaurant helmed by talented local chef, Alfonso D'Auria who regularly hosts “Four Hands” dinners and should not be missed. The hotel has a wellness space with a steam room, sauna and mini hot tub in collaboration with brands, Clarins and MyBlend which is enjoyable only if not rushed in the experience.
