Why do people love staying in your hotel? Wilde gives guests the best of both worlds. You have your own apartment with a kitchen and space to relax, but you still have the service, comfort and little touches you’d expect from a boutique hotel.

Porto is our second Portuguese property after Wilde Lisbon, and we’ve loved becoming part of this neighbourhood. We’ve brought a little bit of the city into the hotel too, with local artwork, ceramics and pieces from Portuguese makers throughout the space. We’re also home to O’s Above, our first destination rooftop bar, which has quickly become a favourite spot for a drink, a glass of local wine and sunset views across the city.

What is there to do in the area? The best thing about staying here is that you can walk out the door and Porto is on your doorstep! There are brilliant cafés, bakeries, independent shops, galleries, bars and restaurants all around us.

You’re close to the famous spots like Igreja do Carmo, Livraria Lello, Dom Luis Bridge and São Bento Station but we always tell guests to leave some time to just wander. Browse Mercado do Bolhão, stop for a traditional Portuguese lunch or find a little wine bar tucked away on a side street.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Breakfast at O’s Below is a lovely way to start the day. We serve speciality coffee, fresh breads and pastries from local bakery Royale Pão Paixão, alongside Portuguese favourites like pastéis de nata and some classic breakfast dishes.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Yes. O’s Below is open throughout the day, so you can pop in for coffee and pastries in the morning, then come back later for sharing plates, local wines and cocktails. O’s Above is the place to be for sunset drinks, seasonal cocktails and snacks with a view.

Porto is such a great city for food and there are so many places worth discovering nearby. We always recommend trying some traditional Portuguese spots for local dishes, seafood and petiscos.

For coffee and something sweet, we love MIBA Artisanal Bakery and EARLY Cedofeita. For something more modern, Bosco, Fiasco and Bau Bau are always favourites and if you’re looking for a really good cocktail, Royal Cocktail Club is a must.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our studios are a favourite for couples and city breaks. They’re comfortable, easy to settle into and have everything you need, including a fully equipped kitchen. Our residence and retreat apartments are popular with families, friends and anyone staying a little longer, as they come with their ownprivate terrace and give you more space to relax and really settle into the city.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? Families are very welcome at Wilde Porto. We can provide cots, high chairs and other essentials to make travelling with little ones easier. Our larger apartments can sleep up to four guests, so they’re a great option for families or groups travelling together. While we don’t offer extra beds, our team can help you find the apartment that works best for your stay.

What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers? Don’t rush Porto. It’s a city that’s best enjoyed slowly. Take time to wander, find a little café you love, try somewhere new for dinner and see where the day takes you. And if you’re staying a little longer, we’d really recommend taking a trip up to the Douro Valley for a wine tour. It’s a beautiful part of Portugal and a lovely way to see a different side of the region.
