Hotel Overview

“From the moment you sweep into the gravel drive, and one of the owners comes out to help with your luggage, there’s the feeling you’re a family (rather than paying) guest in Caroline and Jonathan Kaye’s home. They’ve turned their large Victorian house into a country-house ‘retreat’ but with a smart contemporary edge: statement wallpapers, softly patterned carpets, thick curtains and sofas plump with cushions. Bedrooms are individually styled with bespoke furniture, bright feature wallpapers, supremely comfortable beds and a minute attention to detail - fresh milk, handmade chocolates, sockets in all the right places. Some rooms have window-seats, all have sharply modern bathrooms, some with spa baths. The separate – and pricey - coach house offers ultimate privacy and a seriously sexy bathroom.

The cooking is fine-dining-restaurant standard - modern British with subtle twists - and beautifully served with linen napkins and flowers in a beautifully elegant candle-lit dining-room. Although there are no real views to speak of, and it’s next to the main road (though screened with hedges) the Kayes have conjured up a feeling of relaxed elegance which will revive and restore.”
