Hotel Review

Dating back to the 18th-century, now fully restored to its former grandeur, Chateau La Cheneviere is a charming period property situated just 10km from the centre of Bayeux, close to both historical sights (D-Day landing beaches and Bayeux tapestries) and the beach or golf course. Set amid twelve hectares including stunning parkland, beautiful rose garden and vegetable garden, you'll also find a walled garden with heated outdoor pool, tennis court and bikes to borrow if you feel like exploring on two wheels. Rooms and suites are spacious and all individually designed. The feel is classic elegance (almost English country house hotel style) with muted palettes, parquet floors and marble aplenty - a fine combination of modern luxuries and period pieces. Food wise you'll not be disappointed. The chateau offers two restaurants; Le Botaniste is a gourmet delight which champions all the best Norman ingredients, including the chateau's own honey, and utilises plenty of seasonal plants from the vegetable garden, Le Petit Jardin is a pop-up lunch spot (open from mid May to the end of September) where you can enjoy traditional French dishes. Zanzibar is the hidden speakeasy style bar adorned with souvenirs from the owner's overseas adventures, where again the emphasis is on local produce (with a calavados based cocktail list). If you're looking for a gourmet base for exploring this fascinating corner of Normandy, Chateau La Cheneviere will not disappoint.
