“A smart guesthouse in the heart of the village of Rhosneigr, just a short stroll from the beach. Breezy rooms are furnished in seaside blue and white with pops of yellow and soft green. There's a cute dining room for breakfast, plus one lodge with self-catering facilities. A charming island escape.”

Driftwood, Anglesey, hotel review

Occupying a plum spot on Station Road, Rhosneigr’s main street, is Driftwood, a smart whitewashed terrace housing a six-room boutique B&B. Strictly speaking it’s more guesthouse than hotel, but along this underrated stretch of Welsh coast it’s one of the few fresh and affordable stays. Matthew Bullas and Katherine Owen have bought and revamped the place, which opened in December 2022. There are sea views, original red and cream checkerboard floors and bright and breezy bedrooms. It feels like being in a family house: downstairs is a breakfast room; upstairs, two floors of bedrooms. Check the tides on a chart by the door as you head out for a walk around the sweeping coast.
