Hotel Review

“Set within its own extensive grounds with 700 orange trees, 5000 rose bushes, 200 olive trees, cactus species and palm trees, this uber-palatial 5-star hotel is beloved by the ritzy international set.

Red-caped doormen greet arrivals before ushering them into the opulent large-scale marble reception area with burgundy plush velvet seating lit by impressive chandeliers. The emphasis here is on first-rate service, from the gatekeepers and porters to the concierge and bar staff - there is no shortage of assistance.

Majestic, apartment-sized suites are both cocooning and comfortable encompassing bedroom, sitting room, dressing-room, desk area, bathroom (with both tub and shower) and separate WC. Guests can choose between four bars and four restaurants - Moroccan, French, Italian and the informal poolside Pavillon - where breakfast is also served displaying a mind-bending array of deliciousness. With two pools, a tennis court, verdant garden, sumptuous spa, a collection of chichi designer boutiques and plenty of alcoves and salons to hang out in - it’s hard to leave the compound.”

La Mamounia, Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech’s most storied hotel is big, bold and unapologetically brash. The one-time home of royalty has hosted a glittering array of VIP’s in its 210 rooms, and although a controversial 2009 renovation robbed the palace of some of its charm, treasures remain – as do the beautiful, historic gardens.

La Mamounia

Here is a hotel so synonymous with Marrakech, that its myths and legends are intrinsic to the city's glamorous bohemian history. The grand dame of Morocco is as fabulous and seductive as ever.
