“A rustic camp exuding character and a homely charm. Bandas with private balconies are made from local materials - grass thatch, timber, drift wood, stones and reeds. Friendly staff give a laid back feel. Dine in the evening under the stars. Ideal for escaping to the wild.”

Hotel Review

Located in the North of Ruaha National Park Mwagusi is a rare gem on the safari circuit. Tucked away on the banks of a curve in the Mwagusi Sand River and then home of Chris Fox and family, the camp oozes character and homely charm. Overall it's a little bit rough round the edges but that's the way it wants to be ... and we wouldn't want it any other way.

See What They Say

Mwagusi is owned and run by Chris Fox, whose knowledge of this area extends back to long holidays spent camping in this area before it even became a National Park, and whose family helped to ensure that the land was gazetted and fully protected in 1964. He developed the camp as an offshoot from the Ruaha River Lodge, originally managing that camp and using the Mwagusi location for extended fly-camping safaris. It is not unusual to wake in the early hours of morning with the magnetic lure of a sublime sunrise over the sand river, to pad out onto your sandy private balcony to see Chris taking a barefooted morning stroll in the company of a very large and ancient, tusked elephant.
