Hotel Review

Just a 2-minute walk from Ascott under Wychwood train station this chocolate box inn is easy to reach by car or train from London. Flagstone floors and roaring log fires welcome you at the eight-bedroom 16th-century coaching inn. Recently re-vamped and re-opened by Country Creatures (run by experienced hoteliers Georgie and Sam Pearman), the rooms are colourful and cosy, with vintage floral fabrics or bright, contrasting colours. Some feature massive free-standing baths in the rooms and all have fluffy dressing gowns and own-brand 100 Acres products. If you're travelling en-famille we recommend you book the family cottage (two rooms in the courtyard) which sleeps up to six, four in one room and two in the other. Sister hotel to The Double Red Duke, The Swan is smaller with less space but is just as charming.

The modern British menu is seasonal with a lengthy wine list featuring the usual suspects but also some rare and unusual finds including some great Portuguese wines. You'll find some favourites on the menu including treacle tart with clotted cream and The Swan Cheeseburger is a mouth-watering treat. There's plenty of space and tables in the sheltered courtyard garden if you like to eat outside during the warmer months when the outdoor kitchen is open most of the day. In the evening grab your spot by the fire in the bar and enjoy a cocktail from the new menu before heading through to the oak-floored dining room. There's also a private dining room which seats up to 20 — a great place for a party or celebration. A stylish bolthole amid stunning Cotswolds countryside.

The Swan Inn Review

Set in a tucked-away honey-stone village of much charm, this 16th-century pub combines the attributes of a relaxing local and a stylish retreat with an old-school bar, dining room and eight gorgeous bedrooms. It’s an appealing foodie venue, too, with an adventurous menu based on artisanal ingredients...
