Best Château Hotels in the Dordogne
The Dordogne is famous for its world-renowned wineries, its produce and cuisine, and for its imposing châteaux and manor houses. Quite a few of which have been converted into accommodation, and what could be more apt when staying in the Dordogne, than staying in a château hotel? At the more modest end of the scale are bijou châteaux, converted into B&Bs or small spa hotels, and at the grand end of the scale are opulent, five star châteaux, still steeped in all their regal glory, compete with original artworks and antiques - but usually with a beautiful pool and impressive contemporary facilities as well. Most of the Dordogne’s châteaux are just outside of the centres, but there are a cluster around Bergerac, Périgueux, Domme and Brantôme - which is known for its incredible medieval architecture and beautifully preserved old town. Foodies keen to find the perfect château hotel should start their search in the vicinity of Sarlat, which is an area known for truffles, and for hosting one of the largest Saturday markets in the Dordogne.
