Åre is Sweden’s most popular ski resort, beautifully positioned in a mountain valley by the shores of an alpine lake. But as well as winter sports, Åre is also popular with summer sports enthusiasts, with an annual bike festival and plenty of opportunities for paddling and running. The best places to stay in Åre tend to boast beautiful views and ski-in access.
Åre isn’t all about serious sports, it’s also a fun place to be - a bit like a city in miniature, with plenty of shopping, restaurants, bars, cafes and other entertainment within walking distance.
Åre’s skiers take the scenic cable car up to the top of the mountain and then choose from a range of pistes coming down, all the way to the village square. it’s not quite that simple though, the ski region does have around 30 modern ski lifts. There’s also a snow park and a special ski area of children and families.
As you'd imagine the best places to stay in Åre very busy during the peak winter and summer months, so do yourself a favour and book well in advance!
