About Weybridge

Some of these English place names are lovely and clear, including Weybridge, which comes from the fact that this is where there was a bridge over the river Wey.  Contemporary Weybridge has spread so that it’s now on both the Wey and the Thames.  Aside from its rather lovely riverside spot, Weybridge is also known for Brooklands and the Booklands Museum, the London Bus Museum, and for being close to the gardens at Wisley.  The best places to stay in Weybridge are a varied list, including a rather charming pub-with-rooms, B&Bs, and the Brooklands Hotel & Spa.

If you haven’t of it, Brooklands was the world’s first purpose-built motor-racing track, and was used to develop the Blue Bird - which was once the holder of the land speed record, and was later used to produce early aircraft, including the Sopwith Camel, the Wellington bomber and the Hurricane fighter plane.  Mercedes-Benz purchased the old runway when the airport closed, and have turned it into another car museum.  So the best places to stay in Weybridge are an obvious pick for fans of planes, cars, and racing.

The best places to stay in Weybridge are also a useful list for families heading on school holiday trips to Hampton Court Palace, Windsor - and Legoland, and Chessington World of Adventure.

The Best Places to Stay in Weybridge

Best Pubs-with-Rooms

  • The Hand & Spear is a carefully renovated Weybridge pub-with-rooms, with a quintessentially British menu and a family-friendly atmosphere.  There are 12 rooms, and they’ve all been individually decorated, with feature wallpaper, art, a range of complimentary coloured paints and soft furnishings, and a collection of interesting antiques and objet d’art.  Close to Hampton Court, Windsor and Chessington…

For a Weekend Escape

  • The Brooklands Hotel & Spa is something a little different, a racing themed hotel overlooking Weybridge’s historic car racing circuit.  It’s an elegantly shaped building, with stylishly simple interiors that hark back to Brookland’s history.  Pecksniff toiletries and Boca bathrobes lend a pampering vibe which naturally extends to the spa.  Our Gurus enjoyed the hot tub overlooking the race track.  The restaurant and cocktail bar specialise in local produce, with two AA Rosettes the result.

Best B&Bs

  • April House is a chic, three room B&B just off Weybridge’s High Street.  The decor is homely, with a simple, country-contemporary feel, and a calming colour scheme.  A continental breakfast is served in-room.

Travel Information

  • Weybridge is easy to get to from London, only around half an hour away by train via Waterloo.  If you’re travelling from further afield and you want to fly, Heathrow is your closest airport, just 20minutes away from Weybridge by car or taxi, or about an hour by public transport.  Gatwick, London City Airport, and Stansted Airport, are also worth considering if you’re arriving by plane.  If you're driving, the M25, M23 and M3 all run through Surrey whilst the A3 offers a fast route directly to London.
  • If you want to hire a car we recommend you visit our online partner, Rentalcars.
  • Weybridge is a year round destination, but the countryside bits are arguably at their best on a crisp, sunny day, which could happen any time between about March and October.  Whenever you visit, play it safe and bring rain gear.
