Great Hotels in Les Trois Vallées
Les Trois Vallées consists of eight official resorts: Courchevel, La Tania, Méribel, Bride les Bains, St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens and Orelle, and contains a host of smaller villages and hamlets within its giant web; our selection contains a comprehensive selection of the best hotels in Les Trois Vallees from the luxurious Le Chabichou in Courchevel 1850 to the family run Allodis, bang on the slopes of Meribel plus a Clarins Spa des Neiges.
Spread over a vast terrain including not three but four valleys, Les Trois Vallées has 600 km of interconnected piste, masses of unchartered back country, 180 lifts and dozens of mountain restaurants, from the gourmet Michelin-starred (treat yourself to lunch in La Bouitte, St Martin de Belleville or L'Oxalys in Val Thorens) to simple family-run establishments - try Le Bouc Blanc at the top of the La Tania bubble.
Courchevel 1850 wins the glamour stakes, with 12 five-star and 11 four-star hotels. Although no beauty, the hub of Courchevel has been cleverly planned so that virtually all the hotels are ski-in and ski-out with sunny terraces for soaking up the sun. Our selection of hotels in 1850 ranges from the boutique B&B of the Hôtel Les Monts Charvin to the super luxury Le Strato, right on the piste.
Courchevel 1650 is now considered by some to be the more exclusive of the Courchevels, yet is still great for families with hotels like Le Portetta 1650 which enjoys an unbeatable slopeside location right next to the nursery slopes
Trois Vallées devotees have their favourite resort: Méribel, plum in the middle, is for many better placed and less ostentatious than its swanky neighbour.
The south-facing slopes from the top of Saulire don’t hold their snow well in late season, but there’s quick access to higher pastures and snow-sure Val Thorens, a resort which has spruced itself up, with the 2011 opening of the four-star Altapura and several other four stars in the pipeline - we particularly like the Hôtel des 3 Vallées for its great service and food.
Saint Martin de Belleville
The unspoilt backwater village of St Martin de Belleville is charming and is a mecca for serious foodies - you can spend your holiday skiing off those gourmet dinners if you stay in La Bouitte! In late season the south-facing slopes become slushy but the snow cannons keep access open all the way down.
