Arguably the single most gorgeous hotel in Cyprus, Anassa stands among immaculate terraces and cypress trees, with views north across the blue waters of Chrysohou Bay. Accommodation is in a mix of sybaritic rooms, suites, studios and (for big spenders) one self-contained villa. All have balconies, some looking out to sea, others inland to the hills of the Akamas peninsula. There’s a long stretch of sandy, more or less private beach (with a full portfolio of water sports in summer); plus outdoor and indoor pools, a very posh Thalassa Spa, and four excellent restaurants. For a change of pace, the harbourside restaurants of Lakki village are a five minute walk away, and for the energetic there’s hill walking over the rough trails of the Akamas and scuba diving just offshore.
