The Beau Rivage Palace is a grand dame of long standing, and has been welcoming heads of state and alpine travellers since the 19th century. Until recently it was slow and stately, a place where time stood still, off the beaten track in sleepy Lausanne. The views were always stupendous, looking across the lake to snow capped Alps beyond. Rooms are large, with both antique and repro furniture, and many have small but delightful sit out balconies. There are a number of fine, grand suites. The Beau Rivage has a stupendous spa, with both indoor and out pools, hamman and sauna; a two star Michelin restaurant, led by Europe's leading female chef; and a buzzing cocktail bar which attracts clientele from all over the Alps. Sleepy no longer, the Beau Rivage Palace is now a place of pure indulgence and has managed to retain its old world charm and its impeccable Swiss service. Highly recommended.
