“Former home of the Duke of Northumberland, this stately property makes for a luxury adult-only country stay. Rooms are Georgian in proportions with large sash windows and a 'Country Living' style as well as a separate cottage. There are 4 acres of gardens. A very private place to stay.”

Hotel Review

Dating back to 1730 Chatton House is a hotel of undisputed class and Georgian elegance surrounded by a private four-acre estate. Little touches like allotted parking spaces (two charging points have recently been installed), wrought iron beds, handmade Italian sofas and mouth-watering cooked breakfasts, show the extra attention to detail that the owners Paul and Michelle have put into this charming boutique hotel. The rooms include two suites which feature large bedrooms, en-suite bathroom (one with a roll top slipper bath) and sitting room, a Mini Suite and a large luxury double. Most have a living area with arm chairs that invite you to stay a while. The Alnwick room is particularly spacious with huge windows overlooking the Cheviot Hills and the hotel's expansive gardens. All of the rooms feature sumptuous superking mattresses and are classically furnished in keeping with the period of the house.

The surrounding tranquil gardens offer total peace and quiet but if you want to head out and explore Chatton House is within easy reach of nearby beaches, Cheviot hills, castles, Lindisfarne, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Farne Islands and much more. Paul and Michelle offer a dedicated personal service on a par with some of the best hotels in the UK. Set amidst spectacular countryside, Chatton House offers the perfect base to explore and rest and serves one of the best cooked breakfasts (kipper-lovers take note!).

An Inspector Calls: A warm welcome and fine fry-up

The bad old days of guest houses and B&Bs came with an unwritten rule that those running them didn’t like people. What they liked was telling people what to do: what time you had to be back at night, how loud you could play the radio, which lights to turn out on the way up the stairs and such like. They certainly didn’t come outside to greet you on a blustery evening — as Michelle Mattinson does at Chatton Park House, off the A1, about an hour north of Newcastle upon Tyne.
