Set towards the southwestern corner of St Lucia, the peaceful district of Soufrière has become a popular destination for nature lovers and romantics eager for a blissful island escape. With picturesque Soufrière Bay to one side, and the majestic Pitons emerging from lush rainforest on the other, this is a gorgeous region to explore. Many of the best places to stay in Soufrière are hidden on leafy hillsides, but a couple of our favourites offer direct access to the beach, for the best of both worlds.
Stroll around the peaceful fishing village of Soufrière for a sense of everyday life in St Lucia, before admiring the striking Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, just nearby. This region is also home to the world’s only drive-in volcano, and to some stunning sulphur springs — well worth a day trip. If you’re into hiking, clamber up conical Grand Piton for panoramic views, or wind your way along the Tet Paul Nature Trail. Don’t miss visiting the plantations of the interior, where cacao is still grown, sampling delectable local cuisine and tasting a tipple or two of rum. You’re in the Caribbean, after all!
Out on the water, you’ll find sailing, kayaking and swimming opportunities, as well as some excellent snorkelling and diving at the nearby reef. For those keen to simply soak up the sunshine, there are stretches of soft white sand, too.
