About Guimaraes

Founded by the famous 9th century warrior Vimara Peres, Guimaraes is a city that's steeped in history. • Paco do Duques de Braganca - Situated on a hilltop adjacent to the town, this impressive palace dates from the fourteenth century. Its interiors are lavish and on a grand scale. The chapel has the most beautiful stained glass.
  • Platform for Arts and Creativity - Based in the Old Market Square, this multi purpose cultural centre was constructed to mark the city’s 2012 ‘European Capital of Culture’. The metallic three storey building host an eclectic range of exhibitions.
  • Centro Cultural Vila Flor - Established in 2005, this multimedia arts centre played the lead role in Guimaraes’ cultural renaissance. It features cinema, theatre, concert cafe and exhibition spaces. The building is a modern extension on an eighteenth century palace.
