“This quietly luxurious hotel, in an 18th-century townhouse, is tucked away from the city’s busiest streets yet is only a 10-minute stroll from the centre. With a low-key contemporary style and Michelin-starred dining, it offers a quiet retreat after a day exploring the city.”

Hotel Review

It’s so discreet, you’ll probably walk right past the entrance, yet the bustling Grand Place is less than 10 minutes’ away. Set quietly around a courtyard on the Rue Barre, the luminous pale-grey stone building, a former 18th-century merchant’s townhouse, has been turned into19 rooms and suites, most in the main building, some in an adjoining wing. All have an elegant, modern simplicity in bold monochrome shades with pops of glamour in glass-topped tables, velvet throws and large mirrors. Space is kept uncluttered with minimal decorative touches apart from a bold modern art print or sultry black-and-white photograph. Several rooms show off original beams. There are more original features in the light-filled, ground floor public areas with their high, plaster work ceilings and handsome double doors. Three separate but interconnecting rooms make up the dining areas, each with original wood panelling or painted panels of exotic birds and animals, and with doors opening to the secluded walled garden at the rear. Chef Thibaut Gamba offers Michelin-starred dining where the tasting menu could include grilled langoustines with celery mousse, and roasted cod with butternut squash and marigolds.Breakfast has a generous choice of breads, home-made preserves and cakes, plus meats, cheeses and smoked fish together with eggs cooked how you wish. If the weather’s warm, this is best enjoyed in the garden.
