“Designed by and former holiday home of Sir Edwin Lutyens. Located on the famous Muirfield golf course and perfect for an active weekend away. Rooms remain true to their Edwardian origins and are decorated in soft colours and filled with antiques. Chez Roux is an award winning restaurant. ”

Hotel review

This immaculate Edwardian country house hotel is situated next to Muirfield Golf Club, home to many a British Open, making it primarily a golfers hotel. Croquet lawns, tennis courts, massage therapists and a crammed library, however, offer plenty of alternatives. Greywalls has been in the same family since 1924 so portraits of relatives line the walls, antiques feature in the bedrooms and there's even a collection of school caps hanging from a pair of antlers above the staircase - all of which confers an air of comfortable domesticity. Twenty three cosy en-suite rooms, all with lovely views over the garden or Firth of Forth, are individually decorated and crammed family heirlooms. Stroll through the stunning Gertrude Jekyll walled garden, dine on Albert Roux soufflés and sorbets, huunker down in front of a large log fire - in other words, make yourself at home.
