Hotel Review

Since the success of flagship open-house hotel The Hoxton, the hoteliers behind this modern hospitality concept have returned with The Hoxton Southwark, a south bank bolt-hole on the approach to Blackfriars Bridge. With factory-feel interiors, a roof terrace restaurant and cosy lobby bar, this chic city hideaway strikes all the right chords with guests. The hotel's rooms come in five sizes, ranging from a snug to a biggy (fairly self-explanatory). The hotel's city centre location - a stone's throw from the brutalist Tate Modern - is reflected in the interior design, with Crittall windows and concrete ceilings. Contemporary gold light fittings and rich red upholstery prevent rooms from feeling cold, and the personalised bookshelves and eclectic artwork inject a local, London touch. Stylish Roberts radios and vintage-style light switches complete the look. The concept behind this chain of contemporary hotels is to bring visitors close to experiencing life in the city as a resident. At The Hoxton Southwark, four floors of coworking space make that a reality for many guests. There are a range of social spaces in the hotel, too; try the Lobby Bar for drinks before going to see a show. For food, be sure to sample the rooftop Seabird Restaurant, a seafood spot with an impressive raw bar. With chic design that nods to the contemporary capital, this bolt-hole is making waves on the south bank.

The Hoxton Southwark

In a nutshell Since its original hotel opened in Shoreditch, east London, the Hoxton has spread its reach from Amsterdam to New York. Now it has a third property in London (there’s also one in Holborn), round the corner from Tate Modern. It’s just as hip and buzzy as the others, but with four floors of co-working space, in addition to 192 rooms.
