About Galveston

What are the best hotels in Galveston?

Galveston, on Texas’ Gulf Coast, is a characterful island city with long sandy beaches, grand Victorian homes and a lively historic centre, all just an hour from Houston. For the best all-round stay, we’d pick Hotel Lucine. Its mid-century interiors, courtyard pool, rooftop bar and excellent coastal restaurant give it real personality, while the Seawall location puts the beach, historic Strand and Galveston’s restaurants within easy reach.

There’s more to Galveston than sunbathing. Wander the Strand’s historic streets for independent shops, galleries and old-school bars, or explore grand Victorian homes such as Bishop’s Palace and Moody Mansion. Moody Gardens is a great family day out, with aquariums and a tropical rainforest pyramid, while the Historic Pleasure Pier has seaside rides and classic fairground fun. For a slower afternoon, stroll the Seawall, tuck into fresh Gulf seafood or take a boat trip from Pier 21. With miles of sandy coastline and plenty of history to explore, Galveston makes an easy-going beach break with a bit more character.
