About Steamboat

Dubbed Ski-City USA, Steamboat has produced more winter Olympians than any other town in North America — and it’s easy to imagine why once you’re on the slopes! This lively Colorado mountain town has a famously friendly, laid-back feel, making it a great destination for families or groups of friends eager to experience classic western traditions in a spectacular setting. Accommodation options range from simple historic homes to expansive resorts, fit for a whole host of tastes and budgets. The best places to stay in Steamboat are within reach of a plethora of outdoorsy winter and summer activities, perfect for adventurous visitors of all ages.

With 2,965 acres of terrain spread across a whole range of mountains, Steamboat promises epic skiing and snowboarding. The resort’s 18 ski lifts offer access to 169 named trails, there are ample opportunities to go horse riding, snow shoeing or snowmobiling, and keen freestylers can hone their skills at four striking terrain parks. Cosy up at the hot springs, try ice skating, take a sleigh or gondola ride with the little ones, or kick the adrenaline up a notch on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster. Travel during the summer months for hiking, heritage horse rides, mountain biking, fishing and more.

Head to the Tread of Pioneers Museum for an insight into the Yampa Valley’s fascinating history. Once used by the Ute as a summer hunting ground, the area gradually attracted a small community of 19th-century trappers, miners and explorers, who settled near the famous mineral springs for which Steamboat Springs was named. Stroll around the town centre to spot historic buildings, shops and eateries, as well as to attend some of Steamboat’s many annual events.

The best places to stay in Steamboat fill up fast during the winter school holidays, so book your trip well in advance to avoid disappointment.
