Hotel review

One of Lisbon's original apartment hotels, Baixa House was there when the city's tourism boom was just getting started, and it still has genuine character. Thirteen apartments spread across a restored 18th-century Pombaline building, each named and themed after a different Lisbon park, with photographs on the walls and one-off reclaimed furniture giving every space its own personality.

White interiors are lifted by colourful cushions, bright rugs on wooden floors, high ceilings and French windows keep things light (ceiling fans keep the air moving and portable A/C units help in high summer). Marble bathrooms are small but spotless, with drench showers.

Fresh bread is hung in a tote bag on your door every morning, yoghurt, jams, cheese and juice already in the fridge, plus a homemade cake. Fully equipped kitchens mean you could cook, but with Rossio Square, Chiado and a plethora of restaurants on the doorstep, you probably won't.

Staff appear when you need them and disappear when you don't. Trams occasionally trundle past (plus some traffic), but that’s Lisbon being Lisbon - you’re perfectly placed to get out and join in.

Guests love staying at Baixa House because it offers the comfort and independence of a beautifully restored apartment combined with the warmth and attention of a boutique hotel. Guests can explore the historic neighbourhoods of Baixa, Chiado and Alfama, visit São Jorge Castle, enjoy viewpoints, museums, galleries, traditional shops, cafés and restaurants, or simply discover the city on foot.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Although being in Lisbon as self-catering apartment business, every day from noon to 16h00 we will access the apartments to replace breakfast products for the next day.

At the apartment guests will always find coffee, tea, sugar, muesli, cocoa, salt, pepper, vinegar and olive oil. Every day we bring yogurt with fresh fruit, butter and home-made jams, juices, milk, a home-made cake, and some savory products (cheese, ham,…). An accommodation in Lisbon where you find the fresh bread every morning at your door between 8h00 and 8h30, we do deliver. Any special request, or any allergy, we can adapt the breakfast. All this make Baixa House a preferred Lisbon serviced apartment option, allowing guests to enjoy breakfast at their own pace in the comfort of their apartment.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We do not have an in-house restaurant, as all apartments feature fully equipped kitchens. However, our team is always happy to recommend local restaurants, from traditional Portuguese cuisine to contemporary dining options, all within easy walking distance.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our apartments are particularly popular with couples, families, and longer-stay guests. They offer generous living spaces, abundant natural light, and beautiful views over Lisbon, while maintaining the charm and character that make Baixa House unique.

Every apartment has its own distinctive character, and what makes it special often depends on the tastes and needs of each guest. Whether it’s the view, the décor, the architecture, or a particular detail that resonates with them, each home offers unique features that appeal to different lifestyles and preferences.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We welcome families and can provide baby cots, high chairs and other child-friendly amenities upon request. The sofa beds can be prepared, depending on the apartment category and occupancy requirements.
