“A slick, five-star hotel in the historic Cais do Sodré district. Rooms are bright and spacious, done in soft neutral tones, with top modern comforts. Enjoy first-rate regional fare, a full-scale spa and a fabulously central location. Spot on. ”

Hotel review

Corpo Santo has a few tricks up its sleeve. Beneath the hotel, accessible only to guests, lies the Fernandina Room, a private archaeological space revealing almost 700 years of Lisbon's history, from medieval defensive walls to artefacts from the age of exploration. Now a library-cum-yoga space-cum-gym, it's a fascinating place to start a trip.

Built in the Pombaline style that rebuilt Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake, every room is slightly different, with warm browns, beiges and traditional azulejo tiles throughout. The old-world feel isn’t for everyone, but it’s certainly part of the charm, offset by properly old-school hospitality and some unexpected touches: chromotherapy showers that cycle through colours and sing you a song, daily complimentary midnight snacks in the lobby, and free workshops covering pastel de nata, wine tasting and regional cheese. A compact spa downstairs adds a sauna and Turkish bath for weary explorers. Porter Bistro opens onto the street all day; the 146 Bar pours a serious cocktail list into the evening.

The location is hard to beat, between the grand architecture and endless shopping in Baixa and the ancient streets of Alfama, with the river sparkling beyond. The hotel's free walking tour is the perfect way in.

Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Corpo Santo is the only five-star in its immediate stretch of Cais do Sodré, and guests often tell us it feels more like a private Lisbon townhouse than a hotel. Three things come up again and again: the sense of place —  a private archaeological space tracing almost 700 years of the city's history, open only to guests; the warmth and consistency of the service; and the everyday extras that are complimentary, from daily wine and cheese tastings and workshops to the complimentary midnight snack in the lobby and our free walking tour. That combination is reflected in our awards and in consistently top-tier guest scores across the OTAs.

What is there to do in the area? You're in one of the best-connected corners of Lisbon. Within a few minutes on foot: Pink Street, the Time Out Market / Mercado da Ribeira; Praça do Comércio and the riverfront; and the shopping of Baixa and Chiado. Cais do Sodré station is on the doorstep, which makes day trips to Sintra, Cascais and the Estoril coast effortless.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? A generous breakfast served at our restaurant, combining a continental breakfast with cooked-to-order options and Portuguese specialities — including, of course, freshly baked pastéis de nata, everyday from 7.00am to 11.00am.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Porter Bistro, serves throughout the day with a Portuguese-led menu, and our 146 bar, pours a serious cocktail list into the evening. For eating out nearby, we happily point guests to the Time Out Market for variety, and to the seafood houses and tascas of Cais do Sodré and Chiado.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our most requested rooms are the Deluxe Premier, valued for size, comfort, and modern look, along with our Family Suites for guests travelling with children. All rooms have a complimentary mini-bar service, and also daily turndown.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We're a child-friendly hotel: cots are available and we have Family Suites suited to families. In terms of activities you can enjoy our daily walking tour with our guest service members, the workshops of cooking, yoga, etc, all of them complimentary.

What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers? Corpo Santo is the Lisbon that hides in plain sight: a small, five-star house in the heart of Cais do Sodré, recommended by Forbes Travel Guide and rated at the top of every guest channel. But the real reason to come isn't the scores — it's 700 years of history beneath your feet, service that remembers your name, and the whole of old Lisbon a short walk from the door.
