Hotel Review

The Hotel du Vin chain’s pioneering Bristol site is still one of the city’s best options for a boutique stay. Occupying a former sugar warehouse – built in the 18th century, when this was one of the UK’s busiest ports – good-sized bedrooms are named after various wines and other celebrated bottles of booze. The décor continues the theme, with an abundance of claret-red paintwork and wood panelling evoking aged whisky barrels, while luxurious touches include Egyptian cotton linens and L’Occitane toiletries. True to its name, the wine list on offer in the downstairs bar-restaurant is impressive, but guests will also enjoy the bistro-style menu offering classic French dishes, all served by warm and attentive staff. Cosy inside and out, the courtyard twinkles with strings of lights during the warmer months.
