“A contemporary and plush luxury 5-star hotel located in the hipster neighbourhood of Belem with a rooftop pool, outdoor bar, fine-dining restaurant and most important a museum which features more than 600 works of art which guests have unadulterated access to day and night.”

Hotel review

The Armando Martins Museum of Contemporary Art (MACAM) is Europe’s first and only museum hotel. A former 18th-century palace, private residence and public school, this newly converted and stylish-designed 5-star hotel is more than just a place to sleep.

Featuring more than 600 works of art collected over 50 years by Portuguese local and owner, Armando Martins, guests have direct access to the museum to which the hotel is attached during opening hours. At night when the museum closes continue the museum tour by walking the hallways followed by a swim in the rooftop pool. Or read a book in the hotel library surrounded by influential Portuguese art, of course.

Each of the 64 individually designed rooms, studios and suites, are unique. Every detail is thoughtfully catered to discerning guests - heated towel racks, his and her coloured towels and Portuguese-made soaps and creams. Hotel staff are energetic, friendly and professional.

The hotel has a museum cafe with artisan made bread and pastries, a fine-dining restaurant featuring regionally sourced foods and ingredients grown in the hotel’s vegetable garden and also A Capela Arts and Bar, a live music bar with excellent Portuguese-inspired tapas and cocktails.
